WHAT IS HARTLEY’S CAFE BISTROT ALL ABOUT?
Who laid the egg that hatched out to be Hartley’s Café Bistrot? Well it was the concept of Paul & Lynda Hartley who in 2008 took on a disused cow shed at Rookery Farm, Binegar. Still with the cattle stalls in place and missing a roof they worked with their landlord Richard Lyons and built a very special venue. Firstly creating the now quite chic cow shed, then a conservatory which has now been converted into a much needed larger kitchen. In 2022 an adjoining storeroom was converted into additional seating to compliment the rest of the restaurant which can now in total, across the whole cafe, accommodate up to 90 guests. The tables don’t match, neither does the cutlery but the atmosphere is warm, bright and welcoming. There is a roaring log fire in the winter and seating for 30 under umbrellas on the patio tables outside in the summer.
Working with dedicated staff in the ‘engine room’ also known as the kitchen and a front of house team who share Paul and Lynda’s passion for true food, there is always a well informed team in attendance.
Local is their key. Serving local specials like faggots and liver and bacon to national favourites like fish and chips on Fridays and Aberdeen Angus roast beef with home made horseradish on Sundays. That’s not all – we have an extensive beakfast menu which always includes a weekend special, such as Nasi Goreng, one of many international breakfast favourites as well as Hartley’s curries and Steak au poivre for lunch.
All through breakfast, brunch and lunch everything is cooked fresh with as many locally sourced ingredients as possible. With a menu changing every 4 weeks Hartley’s proudly adhere to the ‘seasons’ for fruit, vegetables, fish, meat and game.
So much of what we do has been shaped by passion for food and our travels around the world.
